Nelson is a Sparkling Destination for Coffee Traveller

Behind the somewhat bohemian ambiance that emanates from Neil and Becks Vanstone’s Coffee Traveller café and mobile unit is a polished operation run by two very grounded and experienced professionals who, between them, have amassed many years in top end retail and customer service.

Initially, the business was transient and was being run out of a vintage Citroen van attending festivals, markets and events. Then, when a shop unit became available, the couple embraced the opportunity and proceeded to gut it and refit it and now Coffee Traveller’s café is well into its second year of successful trading. Situated on a pretty west London road adjacent to the Thames, the café is commanding superb reviews from both critics and customers alike.

Prior to opening, and conscious that customer numbers could run high, the couple visited the Caffe Culture show to select the items of equipment they would need to operate efficiently from day one. “The second most important item on my list was a dishwasher,” explained Neil. “Obviously the coffee machine came first but following that, we needed to have a really reliable means of washing cups and dishes and, when I met the Nelson guys at the show, they seemed to fully grasp what we needed and found me the perfect machine, complete with a built in water softener, within my not-overly-generous budget. They also offered a very reasonably priced, rapid response support service should I ever need it.”

The new dishwasher sits behind the striking bar, painted in rich, earthy tones inspired by the time the couple spent in Central America a little prior to opening. “The dishwasher functions perfectly and is in use almost non-stop” states Neil. “As well as the soiled crockery the café generates, we also wash all the cups that come back in the van when it goes out, which is usually one or two days a week.”

Neil and Becks are committed to sourcing their coffee ethically and even invested in an environmentally friendly roaster which reduces greenhouse gas emissions and energy consumption by up to 80%. “It was, therefore, important to us that the dishwasher was in the same league so I was delighted to learn that Nelson, too, shares our philosophy and is at the forefront of energy and water efficient design,” concludes Neil.
